Lovely images, Cristina. And words that beautifully capture the tension between the 'fighter' and the 'maker'. I feel your tension...as a person who also feels this duality--between the person who wonders daily why the entire world is not up in arms and running around yelling about what is happening to nature, indigenous peoples, and the environment all around us...and the person who recognizes that she is, at heart, a creative personality, wanting to figure skate, dance, sing, and photograph to tell stories about the many interactions between people and nature that are truly healthy, e.g., relations between indigenous cultures and their natural environment, or about the glorious life that fills those tide pools (that you mentioned to me in NYC last summer). The truth may be that, in order to keep fighting, we must deliver ourselves to the easel or the skating rink often enough to recharge our batteries, to make something beautiful that can nourish and reinvigorate us and make us feel whole again, when too much dark reality has crept into our vision and our energy feels spent. You give so much of yourself to the urgent causes in our world. You deserve the solace that comes from purely artistic endeavors. Godspeed!
